Robert McGirr is a distinguished legal practitioner with an impressive career spanning over 40 years. Admitted to practice in 1978, Robert quickly made his mark in the realm of commercial litigation. By 1993, his extensive experience and knowledge led him to become one of Victoria's inaugural Accredited Commercial Litigation Specialists, a testament to his proficiency in this demanding area of law. Throughout his career, Robert has excelled as a Senior Partner, where he has overseen legal teams specialising in commercial litigation and insurance. His practice is expansive, covering jurisdictions across Australia and New Zealand, and encompassing both trial and appellate matters. His legal expertise is particularly prominent in arbitration, equity, trade practices, contract disputes, and corporate governance, including directors’ duties and oppression actions. Robert also has a wealth of experience in professional indemnity defence work. Robert’s keen interest in media and defamation law prompted him to pursue additional studies in the field, subsequently representing high-profile clients in notable defamation cases. His skills extend to advising on pre-publication issues for the widely-read New Idea publication. For over three decades, Robert has been a trusted legal representative for the Legal Practitioners’ Liability Committee, the exclusive insurer for solicitors in Victoria. In this capacity, he has represented both insured solicitors and the insurer in diverse legal disputes across all levels of jurisdiction.
