About Us

Established in 1899, Edgar and Wood Solicitors has a long-standing presence and respected reputation within the Dalby community. The firm’s origins date back to when William John Vowles first opened his law practice. Beyond his legal work, Mr Vowles was an influential local figure, serving as Mayor of Dalby from 1907 to 1909 and subsequently as a member of the State parliament from 1911 to 1926. During this time, he held the position of Leader of the Opposition. His commitment to public service continued until his passing in 1943, while still an Alderman on Dalby Town Council. Following in his father’s footsteps, V.V. ‘Billy’ Vowles took over the practice, maintaining its strong community ties. In 1952, the practice changed ownership when Justin O’Sullivan acquired it. The firm further evolved in 1969 with the arrival of John Edgar, leading to the rebranding as Justin F. O’Sullivan and Edgar. Frank O’Sullivan joined in 1980, and after both father and son retired in 1998, Michael Wood—who had first joined the firm as an articled clerk in 1991—became a partner. The firm assumed its current name, Edgar and Wood Solicitors, in 2000. Today, Michael Wood leads the practice alongside a dedicated team of legal and administrative professionals, combining a commitment to traditional client service with a modern approach to legal issues.
