About Elizabeth
Elizabeth Shearer is a solicitor with extensive experience in family law, having practised in this area since the 1980s. While she does not hold specialist accreditation, her broad legal practice encompasses resolving the legal challenges that arise in everyday life, with a strong emphasis on family law matters. Elizabeth has a longstanding commitment to enhancing the delivery of legal services. She has been innovative in developing approaches that provide high quality advice in a cost-effective manner, an effort recognised by her receipt of a Churchill Fellowship in 2003. Beyond her practice, Elizabeth is a well-respected figure within the legal community. She has contributed her expertise through various leadership and advisory roles, including serving as President of the Queensland Law Society in 2021 and as Executive Director of the Law Council of Australia since 2022. She also supports fellow practitioners as a Senior Counsellor for the Queensland Law Society, offering guidance on complex professional issues. Her dedication to upholding professional standards is demonstrated by her membership of the Professional Standards Councils during 2019-20 and from 2023 onwards. Additionally, Elizabeth chairs the Queensland Law Society’s Access to Justice Pro Bono Committee and is a member of the Law Council of Australia’s Access to Justice Committee, reflecting her commitment to improving access to legal assistance for those in need.
