David Leamey

David Leamey is a seasoned barrister with a distinguished career spanning several decades in the legal arena. Admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 19th April 1996, David transitioned from two decades of commercial experience in banking, finance, and insurance into the legal profession. His early legal career included a tenure at Abbott Toutt before he founded his own practice. Venturing to the NSW Bar in 2006, David also gained international experience in 2008 before resuming his practice in January 2009. By April of that year, he was practising as a solicitor and barrister under the licensure of the NSW Law Society. In July 2011, David's practice underwent incorporation allowing him to collaborate with Monica McKenzie for three years, after which he opted to unincorporate and return to sole practice in June 2014. His legal expertise encompasses a wide range of services including conveyancing, criminal and traffic law, litigation, family law, and children's law, with appearances in various courts and tribunals as an advocate. Academically, David holds a formidable array of qualifications including a Bachelor and Master of Commerce from NSW, a Diploma in Law from LPAB, and a Masters of Law from Sydney. His focus areas extend into insurance, bolstered by studies at Deakin, and banking and finance through TAFE. His professional journey is further enriched by 15 years spent in key roles at financial institutions such as Westpac, Commercial Union, and Standard Chartered Bank. David is recognised as a Senior Associate of the Australian Institute of Bankers, a Fellow of the Australian Insurance Institute, and an Associate of the National Institute of Accountants. His wealth of experience makes him a respected and knowledgeable presence within the Greater Sydney legal community.
