Sue Abbott

Susan Abbott was admitted to legal practice in 1990 and commenced her career in a busy general law firm, where she primarily handled criminal defence matters. She represented clients across multiple jurisdictions in cases ranging from traffic offences to serious charges, including murder. Following this initial period, Susan established a successful sole practice in the city before taking a career break to travel and raise her three sons. Since returning to full-time practice a decade ago, she has focused on Family Law, Wills and Estates, and Personal Injury Claims. Susan is frequently instructed by the Commissioner for Victims’ Rights to advocate for victims of crime, ensuring their interests are effectively represented in various legal contexts. Trained in Collaborative Practice, Susan is committed to resolving post-separation disputes and compensation claims amicably, minimising the stress and expense of litigation where possible. However, if court proceedings are necessary, she provides robust representation supported by a network of experienced barristers, working strategically to secure favourable outcomes for her clients. Outside of her legal career, Susan has competed at a high level in athletics and hockey, representing South Australia. She remains actively involved in sport through supporting her sons. Alongside her husband, she has lived and worked in several Australian states and enjoys extensive travel. Susan holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. Her practice areas include Family Law matters such as divorce applications, property settlements, parenting orders, and collaborative law resolutions; Wills, Powers of Attorney, advance care directives, probate applications, estate administration, and contested estates; as well as personal injury claims including motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall incidents, medical negligence, and victims’ rights.
