Adam Wightman

Adam Wightman is the Director and Head of Canny Legal, bringing extensive experience and a pragmatic approach to family law matters. With over 18 years practising in Geelong, Adam has dedicated his career exclusively to family law since 2007, earning the trust and respect of his clients through his knowledgeable and empathetic guidance. Adam has dealt with a broad range of complex family law issues, including property settlements, parenting arrangements, and financial disputes. His thorough understanding of the challenges faced during separation allows him to support clients with sensitivity, aiming to reduce anxiety and promote amicable resolutions where possible. At the same time, he provides robust representation when litigation is necessary. He holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in International Relations and Journalism. Early in his career, Adam gained valuable experience across various legal fields, including commercial law, before choosing to focus on family law. He regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, as well as the Geelong Magistrates Court. Adam’s insight into the complexities of balancing career and family commitments informs his practical advice, particularly for clients navigating parenting arrangements involving young children. Raised and educated in Geelong, he collaborates with his wife Karlene, who specialises in wills and estates at Canny Legal. Outside of work, Adam enjoys family life, cycling, and travel. His practice areas include property settlements, parenting disputes, separation and divorce, superannuation and business issues in family law, binding financial and prenuptial agreements, child support, family violence, intervention orders, contravention matters, and adult adoption. Adam is a member of the Geelong Law Association and the Law Institute of Victoria and has served as a Director of Pathways.
