Vijay Kooblal

Vijay Kooblal is the Principal Lawyer with over 43 years of extensive legal experience. He commenced his legal career in South Africa, where he was admitted as an attorney in 1982, after obtaining a B. Proc Law degree and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of South Africa. Vijay further expanded his expertise through postgraduate qualifications, including a Certificate in Constitutional Litigation and a Certificate in New Labour Relations from the University of Natal, as well as a Master of Taxation from Monash University, where he was recognised as the top student in anti-avoidance in tax transactions and tax administration. After starting his practice in Durban, South Africa, Vijay relocated to Melbourne and became the Principal of Boyle Telfer & Kooblal. He is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Tax Institute of Australia. Vijay’s comprehensive practice encompasses a broad range of legal areas including civil litigation, commercial law, family law, international transactions, franchising, international trade and contracts, acquisitions and mergers of smaller entities, estates, wills and probate, business law, company law, trusts, and taxation law. His experience also covers matters involving patents, stamp duty, land tax, capital gains tax, business disputes, shareholders and partnership disputes, contested wills and deceased estate family provision applications. He has a notable record, having played a pivotal role in presenting the first socio-economic case to the Constitutional Court in South Africa. Vijay regularly appears in a wide range of courts and tribunals, including the Supreme Court, County Court, Federal Court, Federal Magistrates Court, Magistrates Courts, Family Court, Children’s Court, Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), as well as before the Australian Securities & Investment Commission (ASIC), the Small Business Commissioner, and other tribunals.
