Katy Gale

Katy Gale is an Associate Lawyer at BU Lawyers, having joined the firm in 2020 initially as a paralegal before becoming a qualified lawyer. She holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours as well as a Bachelor of Media and Communication. Katy’s legal practice encompasses commercial law and litigation, with extensive experience advising businesses on legal risks, drafting commercial contracts, and managing disputes. She is well-versed in all aspects of employment law, including preparing employment agreements and providing guidance on termination, redundancy, and compliance matters. Her expertise extends to professional liability, particularly representing a broad range of building professionals such as architects, engineers, and surveyors. Katy frequently acts in building and construction litigation, assisting both homeowners and industry professionals with issues involving defective building claims and professional negligence. She has appeared before the Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), and the County Court. Additionally, she advises on insurance matters related to construction, including domestic building warranty insurance and professional indemnity insurance relevant to building professionals. Katy has a strong interest in restraint of trade disputes, advising employers and employees on the enforceability of restraint clauses, risks associated with client solicitation, misuse of confidential information, and litigation strategies. She also drafts bespoke restraint clauses tailored to specific business requirements. Outside of her legal career, Katy enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle through running and gym workouts.
