Tijana Petkovic

Tijana Petkovic has practised exclusively in family law since her admission as a solicitor over 15 years ago. She has extensive experience handling a broad range of parenting and property matters, including cases involving substantial asset pools, complex business structures, and representation of third parties and interveners. Tijana is well-versed in spousal maintenance claims, sensitive parenting disputes involving allegations of risk and abuse, overseas relocation issues, as well as matters arising under The Hague Child Abduction Convention. Tijana’s practice includes significant expertise in family law matters with international elements. This encompasses disputes where jurisdiction is contested, assets are held across multiple jurisdictions, and cases where one parent seeks to relocate internationally with a child. She maintains strong working relationships with fellow family lawyers overseas to support clients living outside Australia. As a confident and skilled litigator, Tijana regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. She is also active in alternative dispute resolution, participating in mediations and trained in Collaborative Practice. Tijana appreciates that litigation is often a last resort and is committed to guiding families, couples, and individuals towards practical and workable solutions. Beyond her legal practice, Tijana currently serves as President of the City of Sydney Law Society, representing over 13,000 solicitors practising in the Sydney CBD area. She is a member of the Family Law Section of The Law Council of Australia, Central Sydney Collaborative Forum, Collaborative Professionals of NSW, the Australian Association of Collaborative Professionals, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. Tijana also contributes to legal education as an occasional guest lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, teaching in both the undergraduate and juris doctor family law programs. She frequently presents papers on family law issues to members of the legal profession and allied professionals. Tijana has been recognised as a Recommended Parenting & Children’s Matters Lawyer in NSW for 2025 and was previously named a Family Law Rising Star NSW in 2018 by Doyles Guide. She joined Blanchfield Nicholls in 2014 and was appointed a Director in July 2016.
