Charlie Henley

Charles Henley is a Director at Blackwell Short, bringing a strong background in commercial litigation and a broad range of legal services tailored to meet the needs of the regional community. He completed his legal studies at Bond University with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce (Economics), followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Legal Training. Charles began his career in Sydney, gaining five years of experience at one of Australia’s largest insurance litigation firms, where he developed substantial expertise across commercial litigation and court procedures in the Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW. After relocating to Orange in 2019, Charles worked successfully within the NSW Government before joining Blackwell Short in April 2021. At Blackwell Short, Charles expanded his practice areas to include debt recovery, building and construction disputes, and contested estate and family provision claims. He also assists clients with various commercial transactions for businesses and individuals, as well as conveyancing and leasing matters. In recognition of his professional capabilities, Charles was admitted as a Public Notary in October 2022, providing an additional service to clients and marking Blackwell Short as having two practising public notaries within the Orange region. Charles’s commitment to the local community is reflected in his involvement outside the legal sphere. He is an avid rugby player, having captained the Emus Rugby Club First Grade Side across multiple seasons and representing both the Central West and NSW Country teams. He currently serves as President of the Emus Rugby Board and holds a board position with the Orange Business Chamber. His prior committee work includes election to the Central West Law Society. In July 2024, Charles was appointed as a Director of Blackwell Short, working alongside co-directors Alison Neville and Anthony Short. He combines practical legal experience with a strong community focus to provide effective, client-centred legal solutions.
