Mary Hu

Mary Hu is an Associate Director with extensive experience providing practical and commercially focused tax advice. She works closely with businesses and family groups to navigate restructures, transactions, tax compliance, and interactions with the Australian Taxation Office, always aiming to balance commercial objectives with effective tax risk management. Mary's career includes leadership roles such as Partner at a leading international Big 4 accounting firm and Associate Director at Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills, a well-regarded boutique tax advisory firm. Her diverse professional background equips her to deliver comprehensive tax advice tailored to her clients' specific needs. She holds a Master of Laws in Taxation, a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours, and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney. Qualified as both a lawyer and Chartered Accountant, Mary was recognised in the Lawyers Weekly 30 under 30 for her contributions to taxation law. She has presented on international tax issues at The Tax Institute and co-authored the Australian tax chapter for the 6th edition of Wolters Kluwer's textbook, Tax Planning for International Mergers, Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, and Restructurings. Based in the scenic lower Blue Mountains area of Sydney, Mary enjoys nature walks with her husband, exploring new culinary recipes, and is an avid supporter of the Penrith Panthers NRL team.
