Chris Colwill

Chris Colwill brings nearly three decades of dedicated practice in family law to his clients, having embarked on his legal journey after completing his Bachelor of Law at the Queensland University of Technology in 1993, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies in 1994. Admitted to the legal profession in November 1994, Chris has been committed to family law since 1995, driven by a heartfelt compassion and empathy for those navigating the often arduous terrain of relationship and marriage breakdowns. Chris's deep commitment to the community and his clients is evident through his long-standing role as a preferred supplier for the Legal Aid Office of Queensland, a position he has held for over 25 years, earning acknowledgment for his extensive contributions to the organization. His pro bono work further highlights his dedication to assisting those in need, having supported the Mackay Community Legal Centre and various local sporting groups. Notably, Chris has served as a legal advisor and Board Member for the Kutta Mulla Gorrina Indigenous Learning School in Mackay, reinforcing his commitment to community development and support. An enthusiastic mentor, Chris takes pleasure in guiding and assisting younger practitioners, sharing his wealth of experience in family law to foster their professional growth. Beyond his legal career, Chris cherishes an active lifestyle, with interests in running, attending the gym, and enjoying the sport of hockey, particularly as a spectator of his children’s athletic pursuits.
