Emily Barker

Emily Barker is a renowned family law practitioner, focusing on this area since her admission in 2014. She offers expert advice on a broad spectrum of family law issues, including complex financial disputes, parenting matters, and de facto relationships, with a particular aptitude for handling sensitive cases involving family violence and sexual abuse. Emily's combination of life experience and legal expertise ensures her clients receive both empowerment and support, recognising that many are encountering the legal system for the first time. Her empathetic approach is key in her role as an advocate, navigating clients through their most personal challenges. Before her legal career, Emily spent a decade in the media as a sports reporter for Channel 10 and Channel 9, and as a reporter on Channel 9’s ‘A Current Affair’. She also served as an advisor to Professor Gillian Triggs, former President of the Australian Human Rights Commission. Emily holds a Bachelor of Journalism and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, the Women Lawyers Association of NSW, and the Law Society of NSW, underscoring her dedication to her profession and ongoing advocacy.
