Jonathon Naef

Jonathon Naef is a Senior Lawyer and co-founder of Balance Family Law, driven by the goal of making legal solutions more accessible and affordable. He possesses expertise in handling both simple and complex property and financial settlements, with a particular interest in superannuation, trusts, companies, and taxation matters. Jonathon stands out as one of the few family lawyers capable of conducting Family Law valuations of defined benefit superannuation schemes. His approach prioritises clear and practical advice in plain English, assisting clients with planning future relationships and drafting Binding Financial Agreements. Additionally, Jonathon leads the Wills and Estate Planning Team, emphasising the importance of proper wills and estate structuring to manage risks and ensure loved ones' security. A Master of Laws graduate with a major in Estate Planning from the College of Law, Jonathon was honoured as the Best Graduating Student in Estate Planning in 2021. His dedication to his field earned him recognition as a Finalist and Winner at the Lawyer’s Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards in Family Law and Wills & Estate categories, respectively. He is actively engaged with The Kind Lawyers, a movement advocating for a more empathetic approach to legal practice, and contributes as an affiliate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Outside of his legal practice, Jonathon shares his expertise as an adjunct lecturer and assessor at the College of Law, mentoring future legal professionals in the ACT and surrounding regions. His teaching extends to critical subjects such as Ethics and Professional Responsibility, Family Law Practice, and Wills and Estates Practice. Jonathon’s passion for travel has taken him to 18 countries across Europe and Asia, with a personal goal of visiting every continent. His adventurous spirit is exemplified by skydiving over the Swiss Alps, with Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland being a favourite destination.
