Katie Innes is a Legal Director at BAL Lawyers, bringing over 16 years of experience in commercial and business law. Since her admission to practice in the Australian Capital Territory in 2007, Katie has developed a comprehensive practice advising private companies, insolvency practitioners, industry bodies, co-operatives, and government entities at Commonwealth, State and Territory levels. Katie’s expertise encompasses a broad range of areas including business acquisitions and disposals, corporations and co-operatives law, commercial contracts, insolvency, intellectual property, privacy law, procurement, and tendering. She places a strong emphasis on understanding the unique aspects and risks of each transaction, enabling her to craft tailored contract structures and terms that protect her clients’ interests while ensuring clarity and operational efficiency. In addition to her transactional work, Katie supports various industry bodies by advising on corporate governance matters and the development of accreditation methodologies and internal review procedures. She is also well versed in privacy legislation, providing guidance on the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Information Privacy Act 2014 (ACT), and the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW), including managing privacy complaints and data breach notifications. Katie’s professional development includes Business Law accreditation from the NSW Law Society, attained in 2017, and completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ company directors course in 2023.
