Vasilios Kordos

Vasilios Kordos (Bill) leads the Family Law team at AFL Kordos across offices in Melbourne CBD, Frankston, and Geelong. With a legal career beginning in 1988 after graduating from Monash University with a Bachelor of Laws, Bill has extensive experience in complex and litigious family law matters. He has contributed significantly to the development of family law through involvement in numerous reported cases that have established important legal precedents. Bill has extensively engaged with the legal profession beyond his practice. He has taught law at university level and represented the profession before parliamentary committees during the establishment of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia. Previously, he chaired the Law Institute of Victoria’s Family Law Section and participated in various subcommittees reviewing the Family Court’s operations. Bill remains active within the legal community as a member and mentor, having held roles such as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Portfolio Holder and committee memberships focused on court practice and education. A committed advocate for access to justice, Bill has coordinated the Duty Solicitors Scheme at the Melbourne Family Court and served on the board of Victoria’s first legal services centre for children. He has also been involved in independent legal representation for children and served as a judge for the Kirby Moot Competition, supporting tertiary law students. Recognised internationally, Bill is a member of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. His leadership and dedication to the profession were acknowledged in 2022 when he was shortlisted for the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards, and in 2024 when he received the Law Institute of Victoria’s Award of Distinguished Service. Known for his tenacity in representing clients, Bill also prioritises giving back to the community through his varied pro bono and mentoring roles.
