About Richard
Richard Crane leads the Family Law team at Australian Family Lawyers in Western Australia, bringing extensive experience from both the UK and Australia. Since 2001, Richard has practised as a Barrister, initially in independent practice in the UK, and since 2011, as a Barrister and Solicitor in Western Australia. He has built a comprehensive family law practice advising on matters involving children, property settlements, spousal maintenance, and divorce, encompassing married and de facto relationships, as well as matters involving the welfare of children from other family members such as grandparents. Richard holds a First-Class Honours Degree from Keele University in the UK and has received The Prince of Wales Scholarship from The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, London. He furthered his legal education with postgraduate qualifications from Cambridge University, Nottingham Law School, and The Inns of Court School of Law in London. Prior to his legal career, Richard spent five years teaching Mathematics at prestigious schools in both the UK and Australia, which has contributed to his analytical approach to legal matters. Recognising the emotional and practical challenges that family law clients often face, Richard is committed to delivering advice and representation with compassion and meticulous attention to detail. He adopts a client-focused approach that is both supportive and strategic, ensuring legal advice is clear, tailored, and practical, aiming to achieve the best possible outcomes efficiently and cost-effectively. Richard’s practice is characterised by an understanding of the diversity of clients’ backgrounds and circumstances, and he has served thousands over his career, appreciating that no two cases are the same. His mathematical training underpins a logical and methodical approach to problem-solving, enabling him to guide clients confidently through even the most complex family law matters. In recognition of his professional excellence and dedication, Richard was honoured as Partner of the Year in 2025. His commitment remains steadfast in supporting clients through the complexities of family law with empathy and expert legal advocacy.
