Amy Soong

Amy Soong is an experienced criminal defence lawyer with over 16 years admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. She holds honours degrees in Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business from QUT, supplemented by a Master of Laws and completion of the Bar Practice Course. Throughout her career, Amy has dedicated her practice exclusively to criminal law, representing clients across all State and Commonwealth offences. After six years with a prominent criminal law firm, she established Ashworth Lawyers in 2014, where she continues to provide robust defence services. Amy has appeared in courts across Queensland and has represented clients interstate, including in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Her broad experience encompasses serious criminal matters such as large drug operations, transnational organised crime, sexual offences, and sophisticated fraud. She also handles white-collar crime matters, including Food Act prosecutions, tax offences and investigations by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). Additionally, Amy has represented clients in corruption commission hearings and coronial inquests. Known for her meticulous preparation and attention to detail, Amy approaches each matter strategically, exploring all available options to achieve the best possible outcomes. She is committed to identifying alternative dispute resolution pathways when appropriate, potentially resolving cases early and reducing stress, time, and costs for clients. Amy understands the complexities and pressures faced by clients navigating the criminal justice system and prioritises clear, ongoing communication throughout the process. She is a fellow of The Australian and New Zealand College of Notaries and contributes to the legal community as an active member of the Queensland Law Society Wellbeing Working Group, supporting initiatives that promote practitioner health and wellbeing.
