Mark Leibler AC is a leading figure in the Australian legal landscape, renowned for his expertise in tax law and corporate strategy, alongside a deep commitment to social justice and reconciliation. As the senior partner at Arnold Bloch Leibler, Mark established the firm's prestigious taxation practice and has been a key advisor to many of Australia's largest businesses and corporate leaders for over 40 years. Mark's strategic acumen and negotiation skills have earned him the distinction of being described as tax royalty in Australia by Chambers Asia Pacific. After earning first-class honours from The University of Melbourne Law School, where he was the co-recipient of the Supreme Court Prize, Mark furthered his legal education at Yale University Law School, graduating with an LLM with honours. He joined Arnold Bloch Leibler in 1966 and became a partner in 1969, immersing himself in complex tax matters and corporate affairs. Mark's contributions extend beyond the legal field, recognised by his appointment as a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2005 for his extensive service to business, law, the Jewish community, and reconciliation efforts between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. This followed his earlier recognition as an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1987. His advocacy for Indigenous rights and empowerment has been a significant aspect of his career. In recognition of his exceptional service to both the nation and the international community, Mark was awarded the Presidential Medal of Honour by Israeli President Isaac Herzog in January 2025, a prestigious accolade given to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to Israel or humanity. The University of Melbourne honoured him with a Doctor of Laws honoris causa in 2014, acknowledging his leadership and service. Mark has served as a co-chair on multiple expert panels and councils focused on constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians and has been a director at Coles Myer Limited. His work has consistently been acknowledged by Best Lawyers® International and Legal 500 Asia Pacific, among others, cementing his reputation as a top advisor in tax law, trust and estates, and wealth management. Mark continues to bridge sectors, fostering relations between the legal community, government, and the public, contributing significantly to the evolution of Australia's tax law.
