Anthony Alder

Anthony Alder is the Principal and Founder of Alder IP, bringing over 25 years of experience in the commercialisation of advanced technology developed by companies worldwide. Throughout his career, Anthony has gained valuable expertise working with a diverse range of organisations, including PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal, ResMed Ltd, Ventracor Ltd, Hunter Immunology Ltd, and boutique patent attorney firms. His background includes extensive involvement in the medical device industry, contributing to innovations such as implantable left ventricle assist devices (artificial hearts), bionic hearing technology, and respiratory treatment equipment including respirators and CPAP devices. Anthony holds qualifications as a NSW Supreme Court Solicitor, Patent and Trade Mark Attorney, and Domain Name Arbitrator in Australia. His academic credentials comprise Bachelor degrees in Biology and Chemistry as well as Law from Macquarie University, a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Technology Sydney, a Diploma in Legal Practice Management from the College of Law, and an Advanced Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Patent Attorneys. Previously, Anthony served as a board member of the Trans-Tasman IP Attorney Board, the regulatory body overseeing patent attorneys across Australia and New Zealand, where he contributed to the development of industry standards in partnership with IP Australia and IPONZ. His achievements have been recognised in the Top 1000 Intellectual Property Laws Book published by IAM in both 2014 and 2016. Anthony has managed patent prosecutions across a broad spectrum of technologies, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, food products, cosmetics, digital applications, bitcoin trading systems, biotechnology, building materials, electrical inventions, and industrial chemistry. Drawing on his practical experience working in-house with numerous Australian companies, Anthony has a deep understanding of the challenges and needs facing start-ups operating in high technology sectors. This insight enables him to provide pragmatic and effective intellectual property services tailored to innovative businesses.
