About Roger
Roger Curtis is the Chairman at Abetz Curtis Lawyers and Advisers, a firm he founded in 1987. He earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania in 1983 and was admitted to practice in 1984. Roger's early career in law saw him involved in noteworthy cases, including acting as Counsel in Australia's first murder trial where DNA evidence was introduced, and successfully appearing before five Judges of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. Over the years, Roger's practice evolved to focus on strategic commercial advice, civil disputes, planning and property law, estate planning, employment law, and family law property matters. He has represented a diverse clientele, ranging from individuals and small businesses to large corporations and government bodies. Under his leadership, Abetz Curtis has participated in some of Tasmania's most significant corporate transactions. Roger's expertise extends beyond legal practice; he has held numerous directorships in both ASX-listed public and private companies. His board roles have included Charles Davis Ltd, Harris Scarfe Ltd, G.P. FitzGerald & Co Ltd, Co-Operative Motors Ltd, as well as contributions to the Commissioner of AFL Tasmania, The Friends School, and MyState Community Foundation. In 2023, Roger joined the inaugural Board of the Tasmania Devils Football Club, underlining his commitment to community and sports. A Life Member of the Clarence Football Club, Roger served in various capacities from 1984 to 2011, including as President. He has also contributed to schoolboy rowing, coaching The Friends School crews to success, including an undefeated Under 14 champion team in 2006. Roger's support of Collingwood adds a personal touch to his professional life, often sparking engaging conversations with clients.
